Snowed In

We've been hit with quite a lil' storm here in Buffalo (I know, I know... it's Buffalo...). It was meant to start yesterday but instead didn't really kick in until this morning. By the time I got up and out, my car was under a pile of snow and the roads were pretty dreadful. In my world, that was an excuse to FROLICK!

I strapped on my boots and hiked up to the Co-op. I've been epicurial inspired again lately and have been cooking up a storm. I made vegan beouf bourgignone and baba ganouj last night. This morning was thick French toast from sunflower bread. And since a friend is coming over tonight for dinner, I figured I'd take a stab at vegan brownies that I'd had at The Natural Gourmet years ago (my aunt sent me the recipe). One of the ingredients is date puree. I'd hoped the co-op had that in the baking aisle, but that's a wee too esoteric even by their standards. Instead, I found myself buying far too many dates that then needed to be pitted and pureed with water until I got what I hope was the right texture. Anyway, these bitches were NOT easy to make; they're cooling now and I'm hoping against hope that they came out well. I also made some hummus, which I've inexplicably never made before. How did that happen?

To keep with all this domestic bliss, I zoned out into downhome hippie heaven: I've been blasting Neil Young, Tom Petty, and the Dead all day. -Sigh- 'WIldflowers' remains one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard.
