Dress Up
Finding a wedding dress should, in theory, be painless. I figured my search was going to be pretty quick because I want a very simple dress. Since we're getting married in the summer, I want chiffon because it's light and comfortable. I also despise strapless, so any dress I get must have spaghetti straps. (Seriously, what is the obsession with strapless lately?) And since we're going for simple, I don't want anything big and poufy, or with a train, or with tons of beading, etc, etc, etc.
Well, simplicity is not always easily found. I've searching through kazillions (give or take a shmillion) of magazines and websites and have liked only a handful of dresses. That one that I posted here a month ago is by a company called Alix & Kelly based in LA; as much as I love it, it's $1200. I understand that's getting off cheap for a wedding dress, but given we're probably going to spend $10k max, I can't justify it - especially without trying it on first.
So, my mom and I hit the road to look at dresses yesterday. And - amazingly - I found a dress. And it was the first one I tried on. In fact, when we first went into the shop, it was the only one I found appealing at all, but my mom and the sales help convinced me to try on some others while I was in there. We left and went to a few other shops, only so my mom could try to convince me to not be impulsive. But I wasn't being impulsive - I really liked the dress. It's soft and flowy and I know I can boogie down in it. So we went back and ordered it.
Here's a pic; it's a bridesmaid dress and isn't usually advertised in ivory, which is probably why I hadn't noticed it before. The ad campaign is also horrifically styled - it doesn't do the dress justice. When it comes in, it will have straps put on (and probably 3 inches taken off the bottom since I seem that short). AND, it's only $200!!
But the best part? The saleswoman told me I have "the tiniest" waist. That alone was worth the $200.
